Ice Age 4 Trailer

Some fruits of my labors over the past months.  I’ve learned so much and I can’t wait to share more stuff about my experience so far working on this great sequel as a tech anim.

LA Derby Dolls Fight Crew Vs. Varsity Brawlers

Taking a minute to test out video blogging from my iPhone and to say what an awesome event Derby Dolls puts on. Honestly, I can’t remember when I had that much fun! If you’ve been putting it off you really need to get diwn there ASAP befor they lose their hot streak! Fear not, they are ranked third in their division and they winning against the Brawlers who were 2nd in the division means the Fight Crew could be ranked higher now. It was a close and exciting match but the LADD Fight Crew pulled a victory in the end with 100 points. Very good stuff indeed, and who doesn’t want to go see roller derby, a crap load of ladies (a lot of whom look similar to the suicide girls) brawling on roller skates going 90 miles an hour around a claustrophobically short track!?

Book Trailer: The Making of Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back

via Hollywood Reporter – There’s a fantastic book coming out about the making of The Empire Strikes Back this October 12.  It looks like historical art and artifacts that were unearthed from the cavernous Lucasfilm libraries will be exposed in all their glory for film makers, fans, and young jedis to enjoy and learn.  What an exciting opportunity to learn of how the beauty of the film came about artistically with all of the unseen financial and logistical constraints that almost thwarted the film’s release.

Anime Mythology: Mystics, Priestesses and Warrior Women

Vidiots Annex – Film Studies - Anime Mythology

Instructor: Crispin Freeman

Revolutionary Girl Utena

Adolescenece of Utena

Synopsis from Vidiots Website:

These are elaborate and humorous Power Point-style presentations with slides and video that explore the differences in animated and video game storytelling in Japanese and American cultures.

My Perspective

I really had a great experience at a smaller gathering of anime enthusiasts at Vidiots Annex this Tuesday.  Watch this video to get a sense of what happens during Crispin’s energetic and informative presentations.  It’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what one of these presentations actually consist of.  Highly metaphysical and based on Jungian theories of archetypal figures and Joseph Campbell’s The Hero’s Journey, Crispin delves into the cultural aspects and differentiations of anime and western animation with clarity and style.

The Tracy Fragments

With: Ellen Page as Tracey Berkowitz
Written: Maureen Medved (novel)
Maureen Medved (screenplay)
Directed: Bruce McDonald

Showing: The Newport Beach Film Festival – April 24 – May 1, 2008

My Blurb: Looks like another interesting LOOKING film with the beautiful and talented Ellen Page. I’m already hooked on the very interesting and fragmented ways the frame is composed. I do love the movies with settings in rural America. Call me sentimental. You can take the boy out of the country but not the country out of the boy, whole bit –whatever. I’m going to watch for this one.
