Gallery Girls @ Comic-Con 2009

In the few days leading up to SDCC I’m feverishly searching for the best events and things to check out and the best days to go.  This year, i’m going to try to blog as much of it as I can, of course all from my iPhone =).  I’ve got the perfect system for a one man production.

First of all my favorite Gallery Girls are going to be the in the flesh so to speak for some life drawing sessions.  This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to get some very valuable drawing time in.  It’s at a bar, so there is much alcohol and food to be had, but I steer
clear of that stuff whilst trying to produce favorable artwork!  I’ve copied the rundown here for anyone’s interest.

We have some exciting things planned this summer. Here are just a
couple…

“Gallery Girls” & “Drink and Draw” have teamed up to give you even more drawing pleasure starting with:

Thursday, July 23rd, @ 8PM till 2AM
Join us at Hennessey’s Tavern for the Official SDCC Drink & Draw! 708 4th Ave  (@ G Street ) in San Diego!

They serve dinner too, if you’re bringing more than just your thirst!

It’s gonna be quite the event! So get there early!

Life Sketches: quick 5-10 minute

Concept Speed Painting

This concept speed painting is in many ways inspired by my recent delving into the Philip Pullman’s Dark Materials series of books, the same series that includes The Golden Compass. His stories are very rich and insightful to human character on an epic level. I’m thoroughly engrossed and want to read the books over and over again just because of the sheer imagination it took to create not just one world but multiple worlds of fantasy and have it all relate in some way to the the human condition as we know it in this world. It’s inspiring and challenges my creativity and imagination to the core even though they are considered to be children’s books.

Take a closer look at this image to see things that are very subdued in the smaller image, and even in the larger image. I think if I were to improve upon this concept it would be to explore how to push the limits of subtlety and make this image engaging still.

I’m trying for more different approaches to painting concepts. I used custom brushes to make the large forms and shapes concentrating on composition and speed. I was actually just testing the brushes and happy coincidences became instigators to this sketch. It’s actually quite a departure from my usual techniques. It’s pretty hard to work in only muted subtle tones. Hopefully the frigidness of this piece is aptly conveyed.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog that encompasses artistic interests in the Computer Graphics, Music, Film industries, and a few of my personal interests as well. I'm pretty new on the scene, but I hope to contribute a lot more as I have time and color my little dark corner of the interwebs with all kinds of things that make me, and maybe you, excited and inspired. Sometimes bombastic and at times dark and moody but always mischievous, I give you CG Hijinks, please, enjoy your stay!
